About G.D. Birla Sabhagar
G.D. Birla Sabhagar is a proscenium auditorium in Ballygunge, next to the Birla Mandir, established in 1984 by Dr K.K. Birla. Its stage has hydraulic pits and a trap door along with modern sound and lighting, and the complex also has a library. The cultural body Sanskriti Sagar presents or co-presents much of its programming: Hindustani and Carnatic recitals, classical dance, Bengali and Hindi theatre and talks. It has also become one of the city's main rooms for touring stand-up; its April 2026 line-up included Pranit More and Kanan Gill. Sessions of the Kolkata Literary Meet were held here in January 2026.
