Things to do in Howrah

Howrah is Kolkata's twin city on the west bank of the Hooghly, joined to it by the Howrah Bridge and, since 2024, by the Green Line's tunnel under the river. Most visitors know it for Howrah station, where the metro platforms are the deepest in the country, and for the Rail Museum beside it, set up in 2006. Events here are local in scale: municipal auditoriums, neighbourhood pujas and the Dumurjala sports complex. The ferry from the station jetty across to the Kolkata ghats is one of the cheapest good views in the city. For bigger outings, head to Shibpur or Belur.
