Festivals, Pujas & Fairs in Kolkata

Kolkata's year is a chain of festivals; the Bengali saying 'baro mashe tero parbon', thirteen festivals in twelve months, undersells it. The run starts with Durga Puja, from 17 to 21 October in 2026, followed by Lakshmi Puja on 25 October, Kali Puja and Diwali on 8 November and Jagaddhatri Puja on 18 November. December belongs to the film festival and the Park Street Christmas lights, January to the Book Fair, the literary festivals and Poush Sankranti, and February to Saraswati Puja. Dol Jatra follows in March and Poila Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, on 15 April 2027. Eid, Muharram, Rath Yatra and Chinese New Year in Tiretta Bazaar and Tangra are part of the same calendar. Winter adds handicraft and trade fairs. This page lists festival events, melas and celebrations across Kolkata, Howrah, Salt Lake and New Town.
