St Paul's Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Calcutta and the largest church in the city. Its cornerstone was laid on 8 October 1839 and the building was completed in 1847, in a Gothic Revival style with a tower and spire modelled on Norwich Cathedral; the spire rises 201 feet.
