Dol Jatra & Holi 2027 in Kolkata

Holi in Bengal is Dol Jatra, also called Dol Purnima or Basanta Utsav, and in 2027 it is expected on Monday 22 March, the same day as Holi in most of the country. The West Bengal holiday list for 2027 had not been published at the time of writing, so confirm the date nearer the time. The Bengali version is gentler than the north Indian one: mornings begin with processions of people in yellow singing Tagore's spring songs, dry abir in red and pink is smeared rather than thrown, and idols of Radha and Krishna are placed on swings in temples and old family houses in North Kolkata. Cultural groups and housing complexes hold Basanta Utsav programmes of song and dance in the days before, in the style Tagore started at Santiniketan. Alongside that, the city has the full run of ticketed Holi parties: rain dances, DJs and thandai at clubs, hotel lawns, resorts off the Bypass and water parks, mostly on the weekend of 20–21 March and on the day itself.
