About Eden Gardens
Eden Gardens is India's oldest cricket stadium, established in 1864 at the north-western corner of the Maidan, and its second largest. It is run by the Cricket Association of Bengal, which has its headquarters in the ground, and is the home of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. The stadium hosted the 1987 World Cup final and the 2016 World Twenty20 final, and the 1993 Hero Cup semi-final here was its first day-night match. Capacity was expanded to about 100,000 for the 1987 World Cup and reduced to about 68,000 when it was rebuilt for the 2011 World Cup. The state's Mahalaya programme opening Durga Puja 2026, with a drone show, was scheduled here on 10 October.
