Things to Do in Kolkata This Weekend: 36 Ideas (2026 Guide)

Updated 2026-10-12 · 7 min read · by the kolkata2go team

This is our evergreen list of 36 weekend ideas in Kolkata, grouped by mood: heritage, food, outdoors, nights out and family. Each has its area and nearest metro station so that you can pair things that are close together. For the events actually on this Saturday and Sunday, such as gigs, plays, comedy line-ups, workshops and markets, use our live this weekend in Kolkata page, which is updated every day. One note for October 2026: the weekend of 17–18 October is Shashthi and Saptami, so the whole city will be out pandal-hopping. Our Durga Puja guide covers that.

Weekend tips

  • Saturday for books and markets, Sunday for walks. New Market and College Street are shut on Sunday; Dalhousie and the riverfront are at their emptiest.
  • Mondays catch out long weekends. The Victoria Memorial galleries and the Indian Museum are closed.
  • Use the metro. The Blue Line runs under the main north–south road past most of the places above, and the Green Line links Howrah, Esplanade, Sealdah and Salt Lake. Last trains leave around 10:40 pm, and Sunday services start later in the morning.
  • Book ahead for heritage walks, Park Street restaurants and touring comedy shows.
  • From April to September, flip the day. Do outdoor things before 9 am or after 5 pm and keep the afternoon for museums, plays and films.
