Football in Kolkata: Derby Days and Match Listings

Kolkata is the one Indian city where football outdraws cricket on the right night, and the match that proves it is the Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, known locally as the Boro Match. The two clubs have met more than 400 times, and the meeting on 17 May 2026, late in the 2025–26 Indian Super League season, carried direct title implications. Both play their major home games at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, the 68,000-seat stadium in Salt Lake that has its own station on the Green Line. Below that level, the Calcutta Football League, one of the oldest football competitions in Asia, runs through the monsoon and autumn at smaller grounds such as Kishore Bharati Krirangan at Mukundapur, Rabindra Sarobar Stadium and the club grounds on the Maidan, where tickets are cheap and the stands are close to the pitch. Mohammedan Sporting, the city's third big club, has its own loyal following. Fixtures for national competitions are released close to each season, so check listings rather than assuming dates.
