Christmas 2026 in Kolkata: Park Street, Carols & Events

Christmas in Kolkata centres on Park Street. From the third week of December the street is lit from St Xavier's College to Jawaharlal Nehru Road, with the illuminations extended towards Mullick Bazar, Camac Street and St Paul's Cathedral, and Allen Park becomes an open-air stage for choirs and bands. That programme is the Kolkata Christmas Festival, run by the state tourism department since 2011. Its 2025 edition opened on 18 December and ran until 30 December; dates for 2026 had not been announced by mid-October, so treat the third week of December as the usual start. Park Street is closed to vehicles on the evenings of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Beyond the lights, the season means the midnight service at St Paul's Cathedral on 24 December, the Anglo-Indian neighbourhood celebrations at Bow Barracks, fruit cake from Nahoum's in New Market and Flurys on Park Street, hotel brunches, carol concerts by city choirs and Christmas markets in malls and clubs. Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday, which makes it a long weekend.
