Marathons, 10Ks & Running Events in Kolkata

The biggest date in Kolkata's running calendar is the Tata Steel World 25K, confirmed for Sunday 20 December 2026, which starts on Red Road and offers a 25K, an Open 10K, a short Ananda Run and categories for senior citizens and runners with disabilities. The city also has a full marathon: the Kolkata Marathon, launched in 2008, which has traditionally started on Red Road too and includes half-marathon, 10 km and 5 km categories; its next date had not been confirmed when this was written. Around them is a winter season of police, corporate and charity runs, mostly 5 km and 10 km, on Sunday mornings between November and February, when dawn temperatures are comfortable. Running groups train year-round on a few reliable loops: the path around Rabindra Sarobar, the Maidan and the Victoria Memorial perimeter, the Eco Park and Biswa Bangla Sarani stretches in New Town, and the Central Park roads in Salt Lake. Cyclothons and walkathons use the same Sunday-morning window. Organisers announce routes and road closures a few days before each event.
