Things to do in College Street & Bowbazar

College Street is Boi Para, the book neighbourhood: a long run of second-hand and textbook stalls beside Presidency University, the University of Calcutta and the Indian Coffee House, where readings and adda still happen at the tables. College Square has a public swimming pool that reflects one of the city's best-known Durga Puja pandals each autumn, and Mohammad Ali Park and Santosh Mitra Square nearby draw some of the longest queues of the festival. Mahajati Sadan on Chittaranjan Avenue hosts Bengali theatre and music. Bow Barracks, the Anglo-Indian enclave behind Bowbazar police station, is known for its Christmas week. Most bookshops are shut on Sundays.
