Things to do in Alipore & New Alipore

Alipore is a quiet district of bungalows, courts and big institutions: the Zoological Garden, the National Library and the old Alipore Central Jail, which closed in 2019 and reopened as the Alipore Museum on the freedom struggle. Its lawns hosted both of the city's main literary festivals in January 2026. Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium, a conch-shaped complex with a 2,000-seat main hall inaugurated in April 2023, is the city's newest large stage and held the 2024 film festival opening. New Alipore and Chetla to the south are known for the Suruchi Sangha and Chetla Agrani pujas. No metro station is close; take a cab from Jatin Das Park or Netaji Bhavan.
